Mountain Citizen Players of the Week: MCHS Bass Fishing and MCMS girls soccer

The Martin County High School Bass Fishing team and the Martin County Middle School girls soccer team are the Mountain Citizen Players of the Week.

Cardinal anglers competed in the Region 4 Bass Fishing Tournament Saturday at Cave Run, where four qualified to compete in the KHSAA Bass Fishing State Tournament at Kentucky Lake in May.

Jerrod Haney and Brayden Blankenship qualified for state with an eighth-place finish, while Caleb Horn and Tanner Young qualified with a 19th-place finish.

Martin County Middle School girls soccer team is 9-1 on the season. The Lady Cards defeated East Carter 8-0 and Paintsville 7-0 last week to extend their win streak to seven in a row.

With one week left in conference play, Martin County is ranked No. 1 in the East Conference of the Ohio Valley Conference.

The Lady Cards allowed one goal by their opponents in the month of April. They have scored 55 goals against their opponents while giving up eight.

The team will compete in the district playoffs May 9.
