MOREHEAD — Martin County High School Bass Fishing Team competed Saturday in the Region 4 Bass Fishing Tournament at Cave Run Lake in Morehead, where the duos of Jerrod Haney and Brayden Blankenship and Caleb Horn and Tanner Young qualified for the state tournament in May.

The team competed against 88 teams for 19 spots available in the KHSAA State Bass Fishing Tournament.

Haney and Blankenship, in boat 21, snagged two fish weighing 5 pounds to finish eighth.

Teammates Horn and Young in boat 39 caught one fish weighing 3 pounds, 8 ounces for a 19th-place finish, just making the cut for the state.

Both middle school anglers, the team of Brayden Marcum and Tyler Goble did not make the state tournament but finished 42nd.

“Thank you to all our sponsors that make this possible,” Coach Brent Haney said.

The state tournament is set for May 11-13 at Kentucky Lake.
