MC 7th and 8th grade teams win big over Fallsburg

LOUISA — Martin County 7th and 8th grade teams defeated Fallsburg on the road Thursday. The 7th grade won 64-22, while the 8th grade team had a closer game pulling it out for a 49-35 win.

Below is a recap of both games.

7th grade

Martin County 7th grade pounded Fallsburg 64-22.

The Cardinals jumped out on Fallsburg 10-4 in the first quarter. Brayden Marcum got the offense going knocking down a 3-pointer and scoring five of his 14 points. 

Fallsburg’s Ison picked up the offense in the second quarter scoring seven second-quarter points. Marcum and Chase Hinkle kept the Cardinals ahead, each scoring seven in the second.

The Cardinals won the quarter 12-9 to go in at the half up 24-13. 

The offense for the Cardinals heated up as five players broke into the scoring column scoring 21 points in the third quarter. Wilks scored five for Fallsburg.

Martin County outscored Fallsburg 21-7 in the third to go into the fourth leading 45-20. 

The Cardinals outscored Fallsburg 19-2 in the fourth and never looked back.

Hinkle led the way for the Cardinals with 17 points, Marcum and Noah McCoy scored 14 apiece, Kruze Howell added nine, Braiden Fannin netted six, and Jayden Yates finished with four. 

Ison led the way for Fallsburg with 13 points, Wilks netted five and Bowen had four.

8th grade

Martin County Cardinals 8th grade team defeated Fallsburg 49-35.

Bryson Dials and Jarred Haney got the Cardinals going scoring 15 of the 17 first-quarter points to jump out on Fallsburg 17-5.

Ison scored 12 of Fallsburg’s 14 points in the second quarter.

The Cardinals went in with a 32-14 lead at the half. 

Martin County got outscored in the third quarter 11-10, but the Cardinals were still up 42-25 at the end of three.

Ison was a one-man show for Fallsburg, scoring 17 of Fallsburg’s 25 points.

The Cardinals were held to a single digit quarter in the fourth with seven points. Fallsburg won the fourth quarter 10-7, but this one was already in the books for the Cardinals.

Dials led the Cardinals with 11 points, Haney netted 10, Brayden Marcum added six, Hinkle finished with five, D. Yates contributed four, Osborne, Howell and Pack scored three points each, and J. Yates and Hager each flipped in two.

Only two players scored for Fallsburg. Ison had 23 and Wilks knocked down four treys for 12 points.
