INEZ — Martin County High School welcomes a new dance coach for the upcoming year.

Martin County Athletics announced June 6 the hiring of Cheyenne Patrick, a current student at the University of Pikeville.

Patrick, the granddaughter of Gina and Roger Patrick of Tomahawk, is in her third year of college, pursuing a degree in elementary education. A current member of the UPike dance team, she recently placed in Team Performance at the Mid-South Conference in 2021-2022.

She began dancing her freshman year at Sheldon Clark High School under previous coach Micah Davis.

“I have always wanted to coach this team,” Patrick said. “I would talk to Micah about maybe taking over the program one day. Words cannot express my eagerness or excitement for it to be happening.”

Patrick was Martin County Dance captain and received a Regional title and runner-up by the Kentucky Dance Coaches Association.

She is very thankful for her grandparents, with whom she lived since she was young.

“They have supported me in every aspect of developing and growing in this sport and my personal life as well,” said Patrick. “I couldn’t have done it without them.”

Coach Patrick is eager to begin.

“I hope to bring an environment full of support, growth, dedication and a sense of pride for my young dancers,” she said. “I hope to give back just as much if not more than this program has given to me.”

Patrick will be hosting a dance clinic June 24 and 25 from 10 a.m. to noon. Tryouts will be June 27 at the same time.
