Spring sports season has officially started in Martin County, with baseball, softball and tennis getting underway. Martin County High School has some new faces within the programs while returning a few similar ones.

MCHS Baseball welcomes a new head coach, first-timer Wes Hager. Coach Hager comes in with experience from playing at Alice Lloyd College.

MCHS Tennis is fitted with a newly named head coach as well, Josh Penix. Coach Penix had the title of assistant coach from the previous years and was finally awarded the head coach position.

Martin County Lady Cards Softball is the only spring sports team that returns its coaching staff. Our Lady Cards are led by Jonathan Durham and his assistants Josh Horn, Taylor Slone, Brad Stacy, Tivis Hinkle and Paige Maynard.

You can catch our athletes in action at the baseball and softball fields throughout the week and our tennis team in Warfield.

Watching our baseball team preseason to now, I have seen them develop at a fast rate. Martin County High School Baseball is fitted with some talented young kids that are experienced from early varsity play.

This young talent, led by Coach Hager, notched a win in the column with a 15-0 victory against Elliott County at home March 22. Coach Hager was awarded his first win as a head coach.
