BOWLING GREEN — After helping UPIKE pilot a 13-stroke comeback Sunday afternoon to win at the Alice Lloyd College Spring Invitational, graduate student Boo Newsome has been named Mid-South Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week. This is Newsome’s fourth honor of the season and seventh of her career.
Not only did the Bears win the tournament as a team for the second year in a row, Newsome earned her 15th individual tournament win Sunday after carding an even par 72. This is her second straight year winning the tournament individually.
She shot 152 overall (80, 72) to beat her closest competitor and teammate Sophie Beverly by 16 strokes. This is her third win of the season. The team win is head coach Nelson Scott’s 20th victory at the helm of the women’s golf program.
She will look to continue her great play Monday when UPIKE begins the two-day Midway Eagle Invitational in Lexington hosted by Griffin Gate Golf Club.
