Cardinals knock off Hawks, Hornets

The Cardinals defeated Pike County Central 9-3 in a home game March 19 and Phelps 17-7 in a contest Thursday at Cardinal Field. Deskins, Hall make Class A All-State list
CITIZEN STAFF REPORT NAUGATUCK, W.Va. — Tug Valley High School had two of its players on the Class A All-State girls’ basketball team. Haven Deskins and Bailee Hall were both named honorable mention. The Lady Panthers, coached by Seth Ooten, won the Class A Region 1 Section 1 championship this year with a 42-39 win over Tolsia.

Martin County High School track team showcased impressive performances at their first meet March 19 at Prestonsburg High School. Freshman standout Faith Caldwell won the 1600-meter race, clinching first place with a time of 6 minutes, 53 seconds. Sophomore Gavin Stepp secured a third-place finish in the same event, clocking in at 6 minutes flat.
