Sheriff warns residents about phone scam
INEZ — Martin County Sheriff John Kirk is warning residents about a phone scam. Kirk says the caller claims to be the electric company and asks for payment over the phone, telling residents their service will be disconnected if they do not pay. The sheriff says residents should not give payment information to these callers.

CAP will accept walk-ins for LIHEAP beginning Jan. 9
Big Sandy Area Community Action Program announced Thursday that it will accept walk-ins for the Crisis component of the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) beginning Jan. 9. Applications will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis until March 31 or until funds are exhausted. The LIHEAP Crisis component assists low-income households experiencing heating emergencies.
