INEZ — The Inez Indians went 3-0 last week against Warfield, Fallsburg and Louisa East.

Below is a recap of last week’s action:

Inez at Warfield — Inez traveled across the hill and picked up a 28-18 win over Warfield Sept. 26.

Warfield started with an early lead behind four points from Anna Hinkle and two from Jazlynn Jude.

Inez’s Harper Runyon threw in two field goals in the first quarter.

The Indians took the lead in the second quarter after Warfield’s Hinkle got into early foul trouble. Mia James muscled in four points and Kenleigh Estep hit a jumper. Runyon scored one from the free throw line.

Payzlee Fletcher scored two for Warfield to keep the score close at 8-11 at halftime.

Inez Indians Chloe Moore and Emily Mills came alive out of the locker room.

The duo accounted for 16 of Inez’s 17 points in the second half.

This was enough to hold Warfield off as they put up 10 points in the third and fourth quarters.

Moore and Mills led the Indians with eight points each, Runyon and James busted through with five apiece and Estep added a field goal for two.

Hinkle managed seven points for Warfield despite fouling out. Hazalena Speakman sent a field goal and free throw in for three points. Jude, Fletcher, Mary Scott, and Annabelle Gess each nabbed a bucket for two.

Inez head Coach Alison Scott said, “We executed our offense really well and we started rebounding. We played slow at first, but once we got into our groove, things started flowing.”

On Chloe Moore, Scott added, “She’s improved a lot. She’s shooting and rebounding. I’m super proud of her growth so far.”

The Inez frontcourt has been making plays and distributing the ball.

Inez’s Runyon commented, “We did pretty good at rebounding and guarding them. Everybody played as hard as they could.”

Estep said, “We played awesome tonight. We hit our layups and passed the ball well.”

Billy Maynard is a first-year coach at Warfield this season.

“We’ve improved a lot,” Maynard said. “We’re going to have to start playing team ball more and watching our fouls. The walks hurt us, but we hung with them in the first half. Once we work on getting the intimidation out of them, we’re going to give them a game.”

Hinkle fouled out in the second half, which allowed Inez to gain steam.

“I think we shot well. We will work on dribbling this week in practice and get back to it,” she said.

Inez also won the B-team contest 24-16.

Runyon hit double digits with 10 points, Estep poured in eight points, Maddie Goble hit two field goals for four points and Kenley Harmon pitched in two.

Elizabeth Dials scored six points for Warfield, Desirae Evans nailed two shots for four, and Payzlee Fletcher, Speakman and McKenna Fletcher added two points apiece.

Inez bagged another win in the C-team game 8-5.

Emily Mooney led with four points and Paisley Mooney and Jaylea Maynard had two points each.

Dials and Evans hit a shot each for Warfield and Gabby Mann scored one from the charity stripe.

Warfield’s next game is Oct. 12 at Eden. Tipoff is 5:30 p.m.

Kenleigh Estep hit four shots from the floor for eight points in the second half, KB Muncy and Emily Mills splashed in four points each, Chloe Moore took one to the rack and hit a free throw for three points, and Mia James, Mallory Hale and Harper Runyon assisted with two points each.

Kinslee Callaham led the scoring with four points, Bradlynn Stafford had three, Jami Preece, Runyon and Estep each added a field goal, and Adrienne Stumbo nailed a free throw for one.

Louisa East at Inez — Inez dominated Louisa East 32-2 in their home game Thursday. Seven players hit the scoring column in the high-scoring affair.

Kenleigh Estep continued to impress in the backcourt. She tossed in eight points to lead the A squad.

Bradlyne Stafford and Chloe Moore scored six points each, Mia James and Emily Mills rang in for four apiece, and Hope Caldwell and Kara Preece each added a basket for two.

Inez won in the B-team contest 18-1 behind six points from Kenley Harmon.

Harper Runyon, Estep, Kinslee Callaham, Caldwell, Maddie Goble and Aubrey Muncy each assisted with a basket to round out the scoring.

The C-team pulled away in the second half and finished with an 8-4 win. Macie Callaham was on fire and hit all eight of Inez’s points.

Inez will be back in action after fall break. The Indians will host Blaine with a 5:30 p.m. tipoff Oct. 10.
