KERMIT, W.Va. — Council members hammered out details on the upcoming Kermit Fall Festival in a meeting Monday at Town Hall. Councilwoman Tammy Preece Hodge told members that events were in order for the Oct. 1 festival as she passed the clerk an envelope from Councilwoman Anna Mae Sartin Wellman containing a donation from H. Truman Chafin.
Quantum Party Rentals of St. Albans will bring the attractions.
“It’s a big operation,” Preece said. “I didn’t realize they had so much to choose from. I could have shopped all day.”
Activities kick off at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, with the Miss Kermit Fall Festival Pageant, sponsored by the Kermit Buddy League. The pageant will be in the old Kermit Gym. Registration is $35. Attire for ages 12 and under is casual wear. Ages 13 and up will compete in formal wear – either short or long. The pageant will be under the direction of Ashley Kirk Browning 304-784-1358) and Kesheia Matheny 304-928-5421. You must contact one of the directors to register.
On Friday, Sept. 30, this year’s Car Show begins at 6 p.m. in the City Hall/Old Kermit Gym parking lot.
The big day starts with vendors opening at 10:30 a.m. at Kermit Park. Vendors can participate free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis. Vendors must provide their own tables, chairs and tents. Vendor tables will include arts, crafts and a variety of food.
ABLE Families Parents as Teacher program will sponsor “Cows Can’t Jump, Roll & Read” from noon until 4 p.m. at a booth at the back of the park.
Kermit K-8 Cheerleaders will sponsor a dunking booth.
Smith Academy of Salon Professionals will do free face painting and offer tinsel and braiding for $5.
Councilman Hawky Preece is organizing the parade. The lineup begins at 11 a.m., with the parade starting at 11:30. Look for pageant winners, sports teams and more.
Children’s attractions will be available at noon, including a mechanical bull, bounce houses, euro bungee and a rock-climbing wall. The mechanical bull, rock-climbing wall and euro bungee will be available until 4 p.m., while the bounce houses will be available until 6 p.m.
Other activities will include a pet show at 1 p.m., a 3-on-3 basketball tournament at 4 p.m., a corn hole tournament at 5:30 p.m. and live music.
John David Messer and Misty Williams & Friends will kick off the music at 2:30 p.m. The concert will feature songs off Messer’s newest album, “Coming Back Someday.”
At 5 p.m., Hammer Down Band will take the stage.
