Police identify Paintsville shooting victims

Ronnie Pack was booked at 3:28 p.m. Monday at the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center.

PAINTSVILLE — Kentucky State Police identified the three deceased victims of a shooting Friday in Paintsville as 56-year-old Paula Wells, 56-year-old Richard Morman and 36-year-old Myrtle Pack, all of Paintsville.

The shooter, Ronnie Pack, 21 years old of Paintsville, is charged with three counts of murder and one count of first-degree wanton endangerment.

The deadly shooting occurred around 10:40 a.m. on Depot Street near Broadway when Pack shot the three victims and fled the scene.

About an hour and a half later, Pack was apprehended on Greentown Lane after being shot once in the arm by a Kentucky State Police trooper. He was transported to a nearby hospital.

Pack was booked at 3:28 p.m. Monday in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center in Paintsville.

Both Paintsville Independent and Johnson County school districts, near the site of the shooting, were placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure on the advice of Johnson County Sheriff Doug Saylor. The lockdown was lifted after the shooter was taken into custody.
