INEZ — Martin County lost a 21-14 decision to Fleming County on the road Friday.
Rain delayed the contest for two hours before the Cards fell to 0-2 on the road and 1-2 on the season.
With 8:02 in the first quarter, Dawson Mills took the handoff for a 25-yard carry.
Mills had a 31-yard run in the second quarter for a third down conversion after moving into Fleming County territory. He hit the pay dirt on a 15-yard carry after breaking three tackles to knot the score up at 7.
Junior Madden Miller broke through the line in the third quarter for a 24-yard carry up the middle.
Trailing 21-7, the Cards pushed back with 7:11 remaining. Mills took the snap on fourth-and-11 and exploded down the field for a 54-yard touchdown run.
Despite having 10 more yards on total offense than Fleming, the Cards came up short.
Martin County finished the game with 263 yards on the ground and 7 in the air.
“It was a good game. Our guys fought hard. They’re a good team that will help us get ready for District play,” Martin County coach Josh Muncy said.
The Cards will host Knott County Central (1-1) Friday at the Rock. Kickoff time is 7:30 p.m.
