WILLIAMSON, W.Va. — The Mingo County Magistrate Court Clerk’s office released these criminal complaints for the week beginning Aug. 9.
Recco Preece, 55, of Kermit, was charged with three counts of obstructing an officer, assault of an officer and possession of a weapon by a prohibited person.
The Kermit Volunteer Fire Department called 911 for assistance with a possible methamphetamine overdose. The Mingo County Sheriff’s Department responded to the emergency call on Mingo Avenue in Kermit. Deputies found Preece inside the residence with a gun.
After speaking to Preece and attempting to calm him, Cpl. E. Williams confiscated the pistol. This allegedly upset Preece, and police said he assaulted Williams and resisted arrest.
Deputies said they used a Taser to stop his resistance and handcuffed Preece.
Other deputies assisting with the arrest included J. Tincher, T. Layne and B. Sipple. Preece was arraigned by Magistrate Donald Sansom, who set bond at $40,000.
Preece was later charged with violating a protective order stemming from a West Virginia State Police investigation in July. Sr. Trooper Z.K. Bragg was the investigating officer in that case. An additional $5,000 bond was set on that charge.
Other arrests made by various law enforcement agencies included:
Shannon Marie Cook, 46, of Delbarton, was charged with DUI, destruction of property and leaving the scene of an accident. She was arrested by WVSP Sr. Trooper Z.K. Bragg.
Cook was charged with domestic battery in another case in which the WVSP arrested her.
James Henry Marcum, 38, of Breeden, was charged with domestic assault and obstructing an officer. He was arrested by Trooper J.T. Kitts.
Robert Gravely, 64, of Delbarton, was charged with being a prohibited person with a gun. Gravely was allegedly riding a bicycle while in possession of a 12-gauge shotgun with no serial number and wrapped in plastic when Delbarton Police Chief John Hall observed him. Hall made the arrest.
Cassady Dawn Ball, 22, of Prichard, was charged with obstructing an officer. Deputy R. Moore arrested her.
Kevin Spaulding, 53, of Lenore, was charged with receiving and transferring stolen property. Deputies J. May, E. Sherrill and J. Smith arrested him.
Thirl Varney, 45, of Varney, was charged with domestic assault. He was arrested by Trooper J.T. Kitts.
(All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.)
