INEZ — A Martin County grand jury returned eight indictments against seven people Aug. 6, including charges involving burglary, fraudulent credit card use, fleeing police, methamphetamine possession and bail jumping.
The indictments include:
Rose Johnson, 54, of Inez, was indicted on one count of fraudulent use of a credit card over $1,000, a Class D felony.
The grand jury alleges Johnson used a U.S. Bank card belonging to Frazier M. Pack of Johnson County between July 6 and July 27 to obtain $1,512.89 in money, goods or services without the cardholder’s consent.
Bond was set at $5,000.
Henry Butcher, 28, of Lovely, was indicted on charges of second-degree fleeing or evading police in a motor vehicle, a Class D felony, and careless driving.
The indictment alleges that on July 10, 2025, Butcher disregarded signals and commands from Martin County Sheriff’s Deputy Steven Putman to stop and attempted to flee from the officer in a vehicle. The grand jury further alleges Butcher operated the vehicle carelessly without regard for the safety or convenience of pedestrians.
Bond was set at $5,000.
James Maynard, 59, of Lovely, was indicted on one count of first-degree possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, a Class D felony.
The indictment alleges Maynard possessed methamphetamine July 2, 2025.
Bond was set at $5,000.
Michael Spaulding, 34, of Kermit, West Virginia, was indicted on one count of first-degree bail jumping, a Class D felony.
According to the indictment, Spaulding had been released from custody in connection with a felony case in Martin Circuit Court and failed to appear for an arraignment hearing July 16.
Bond was set at $5,000.
Kassandra Hamilton, 74, of Tomahawk, was indicted twice on first-degree bail jumping, both Class D felonies.
The two indictments stem from the same Martin Circuit Court felony case. The grand jury alleges Hamilton failed to appear for a pretrial conference June 4 and again failed to appear for a pretrial conference July 16 after being released from custody under conditions requiring her to appear in court.
Bond was set at $5,000 on each indictment.
Lonnie Pauley, 63, of Inez, and Bertha Jude, 46, of Inez, were each indicted on charges of third-degree burglary-complicity, a Class D felony, and second-degree criminal mischief-complicity, a Class A misdemeanor.
The grand jury alleges Pauley and Jude, acting alone or in complicity with one another, unlawfully entered a building or structure owned or maintained by Chris Cisco in the Milo community July 30, 2025, with the intent to commit theft. The indictments also accuse the pair of criminal mischief in connection with the incident.
Bond was set at $5,000 for each defendant.
An indictment is a formal accusation and does not establish guilt. Defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
