Kathy Joan (Newsome) Harless
1950—2026

Kathy Joan (Newsome) Harless, 76, of Fallsburg, formerly of Martin County, passed away June 28, 2026, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

Born Jan. 22, 1950, in Martin County, she was the daughter of the late Hancel “Hank” and Pearley May (Wolfe) Newsome.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Harless, and one brother, Bobby Gene Newsome.

Kathy is survived by one daughter, Jennifer Harless (Billy Joe) Cassady of Fallsburg; one son, Hancel Walker Harless of Inez; three grandchildren, Rhea Dawn (Anson Wells) Cassady, Corey Russel (Gabrielle Blevins) Cassady and Floyd Walter Harless; and four great-grandchildren, Kyra Hope Cassady, Braylon Joe Cassady, Rayne Lynn Wells and Alice Marie Cassady.

Kathy was a member of the Tabernacle Freewill Baptist Church.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at 5 p.m. at Crum Funeral Home in Inez. A graveside service will be held at a later date in the Wolfe Family Cemetery on Venters Branch in Debord. Arrangements are under the direction of Crum Funeral Home.
