Martin County pair jailed after alleged shed heist in Mingo

NAUGATUCK, W.Va. — Two Martin County residents found themselves a guest of the Southwestern Regional Jail in Holden following their arrest June 17 in Mingo County on theft-related charges.

According to the criminal complaint filed by Mingo County Sheriff’s Department Cpl. Erwin Williams and Sgt. R.G. Messer, Helen Marie Bowen, 45, of Lovely, and Johnny Ray Jude, 44, of Pilgrim, while conspiring with one another, stole and damaged a metal shed owned by James Marcum of Naugatuck.

The shed was valued at over $1,000, with damage during the theft exceeding $2,500, police said.

The two remain in jail facing charges of conspiracy, grand larceny and destruction of property resulting in loss of $2,500 or more.

Bowen and Jude were arraigned June 22 in Mingo County Magistrate’s Court.

Their bond is $30,000 each.

All individuals are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
