LENORE, W.Va. — A record crowd of more than 120 anglers cast their lines at Laurel Lake Park on Saturday for the sixth annual Bob Wellman Memorial Fishing Tournament.

Fishing enthusiasts of all ages competed for prizes, bragging rights and the biggest catch of the day during the popular community event, organized by Greg “Hootie” Smith and Johnny Nick Hager.

Organizers called this year’s tournament a success. They credited support from area businesses and volunteers for helping make the event possible.

Sponsors included A.B.L.E. Families, Dingess Service Center, Ultimate Pawn of Kermit, Hatfield-McCoy Bowling Alley, Billy Goat Cabin Rentals and Wendy Coleman.

Volunteers from A.B.L.E. Families, assisted by members of the Dingess Community Action Committee, served refreshments throughout the day.

In the Biggest Fish competition, Ally May claimed first place in the youth division, followed by Keira Sartin in second place. Christopher Gibson earned top honors in the adult division.

Additional prize winners were Wilburn Jude ($50 gift certificate), Ginger White ($50 gift certificate), David Evans ($25 gift certificate), Ryder Sanders ($25 gift certificate), DeMarcum Henderson (Hatfield-McCoy mug) and Cheryl McClanahan (Hatfield-McCoy mug).

“We hope everyone enjoyed the event and that all who attended made lasting memories,” Hager said. “Our goal is to see an even larger crowd attend next year’s event, Lord’s will.”
