James Randy Messer went to be with the Lord at his home in Genoa, West Virginia, on June 6, 2026.

Randy was preceded in death by his mother, Martha Messer; sister Alma (Messer) Colegrove; brother Lloyd Messer; grandson Jacob Messer; niece Dawn (Vance) McDaniel; nephews Timothy Ferguson and Johnny Ferguson; great-nephews Timothy Newson and Dylan Allman; and brothers-in-law Columbus, Harold, Tiney and Johnny Messer.

Randy is survived by his wife, Alice Messer; sons Jimmy (Jessica) Messer, Jason (Amanda) Messer, James (Cheyenne) Messer and Eric Messer; daughters Teresa (Brent) Polston, Carol (Tom) Morrison and Tashanda Newsome; brothers Robert Messer, Joseph Messer and James Messer; sisters Phyllis Clay, Tennessee Johnson and Bonnie (EJ) Maynard; sister-in-law Mary Messer; brother-in-law Junior Messer. He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Josh, Zack, Justice, Skylar and Adley Messer; Brianna Newsome; Megan, Macy, Blake and Andrew Morrison; Brent, Blake, Phillip and Renea Polston; Cody, Tyler Burd and Alexis Edwards; Ethan and Alexis Anderson; and Selena Wright; his great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews who loved him very much.

Graveside services were conducted Monday, June 8, 2026, at the Rest High on the Mountain Cemetery in Dunlow, with Jeff Vance officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Callaham Funeral Home of Inez, Kentucky.
