Temporary roadway to carry KY 292 traffic during bridge construction

CITIZEN STAFF REPORT

LOVELY — Motorists traveling KY 292 in Martin County will encounter a temporary traffic pattern change beginning Monday, June 1, as work advances on a bridge replacement project near mile point 8.55.

According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 12, contractor Walker Construction is scheduled to pave and open a temporary diversion Monday, weather permitting. Once the diversion is in place, all traffic on KY 292 will be shifted onto the temporary roadway while crews remove an existing culvert and construct a new bridge.

The temporary diversion will accommodate two-way traffic, allowing motorists to continue traveling through the area without stopping. However, drivers will notice a change in roadway alignment and should use extra caution while navigating the temporary route.

The diversion includes two curves and two intersections with county roads. Signs advising motorists to reduce speed to 25 mph will be posted approaching the diversion.

Construction personnel and equipment may be working near or crossing the diversion throughout the project. Because of the changing traffic pattern and active work zone, KYTC said drivers should reduce speed, remain alert and watch carefully for workers, equipment and other vehicles entering and exiting the area.

The temporary diversion is expected to remain in place for approximately four months during bridge construction.
