KERMIT, W.Va. — West Virginia State Police arrested two Kermit men Sunday evening after a tip led troopers to a residence on Jennies Creek where authorities said a fugitive was hiding.

According to court records, troopers went to the residence after receiving information that William Spurlock, 32, of Kermit, was attempting to evade arrest inside the home. The homeowner reportedly confirmed Spurlock was there.

Troopers ordered Spurlock to exit the residence, but he refused, leading to a brief standoff with police. After negotiations with officers, Spurlock surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident.

Police transported Spurlock to the Williamson detachment of the West Virginia State Police for booking on a charge of obstructing an officer. He was also served with outstanding warrants from Wayne and Mingo counties charging him with multiple counts of grand larceny, brandishing, fleeing and wanton endangerment.

Authorities also arrested Clint Marcum, 43, of Kermit, who was at the residence during the standoff. Marcum was wanted on outstanding warrants charging him with trespassing and brandishing.
