Cardinals fall to Eagles in 15th Region team tournament

WARFIELD — Martin County hosted Johnson Central in the first round of the 15th Region Tennis Team Tournament on May 5, with the Cardinals falling in both the boys and girls team matches.

The Martin County boys were defeated 4-1. Bryson Dials earned the Cardinals’ lone win with a hard-fought three-set victory over Connor Watts, 6-4, 6-3, 10-7. Jerrod Haney fell to Carter Stephens 6-3, 7-5, while Caden Mann lost to Pacey Howard 6-4, 6-0.

In doubles play, Chase Hinkle and Cole Damron were defeated by Will Bohon and Rylan Kelsey 6-1, 6-1. Bentlee Bowman and Corey Endicott also dropped their match to Caydon Kelsey and Hunter Webb 6-1, 6-3.

The Lady Cardinals fell 5-0 against Johnson Central.

Haruka Kaibori lost to Emily Tripplett 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 1 singles match. Chloe May battled in a close three-set match before falling to Jules Cochran 6-3, 7-5, 10-8. Adalynn Maynard was defeated by Jenna Sammons 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles competition, Addison Kerr and Bella Marcum lost to Jersee Daniels and Jacee Baker 6-1, 6-1. Kadence Blackburn and Raegan Hale fell to Kendyl Baker and Natalie-Kate Slone 6-1, 6-0.
