Show up. Vote. Be heard.

The final week of the 2026 Primary Election has arrived, and Martin County voters now have multiple opportunities to make their voices heard.

No-excuse early voting begins Thursday at the Martin County Clerk’s Office. Election Day follows May 19. Between early voting, absentee voting and traditional Election Day polling places, access to the ballot box has never been more convenient.

Now comes the most important step: participation.

Too often, local elections are decided by a small fraction of eligible voters. Yet the offices appearing on this ballot will directly shape daily life in Martin County.

Voters are choosing candidates for sheriff, jailer, magistrate and constable — offices responsible for public safety, county finances, roads, budgets and the operation of local government.

Republican voters will also help determine nominees for Congress and the United States Senate.

Democratic voters will weigh in on their party’s Senate race.

Decisions will be made right here at home by neighbors, families and citizens who take the time to vote.

Every election cycle brings frustration from people who feel unheard, overlooked or dissatisfied with government.

Voting remains the clearest and most powerful response. It is the one moment when every citizen stands on equal ground. Wealth, influence, connections do not matter. One vote carries the same weight as another.

And in a county the size of Martin County, elections can turn on remarkably few votes.

Healthy communities are built through participation, debate and civic engagement. But communities weaken when citizens stay home and surrender their voice to others.

Democracy functions best when people show up.

The polls are open. The opportunity is here.

Now Martin County voters should do their part.
