INEZ — Martin County’s offense obliterated Morgan County 10-0 in a matchup Aug. 13 at The Rock.
Marlie Fletcher got the shutout at goalie with five saves for the evening.
Laura Hale made a splash after her return from injury with four goals and four assists.
Sophie McCoy has pulled off a hat trick two games in a row with three goals, and she added four assists on top.
Caitlyn Horn powered in two goals, and Savannah Young kicked in her first of the season.
Coach Steven Gauze’s team was clicking on all cylinders.
“We passed the ball well tonight,” Gauze said. “I felt like the entire team was on the same page and working together. They stuck to the game plan and it paid off. Our defense didn’t give up a goal for the second straight game.”
On Thursday, the team lost 7-1 to an undefeated Prestonsburg squad that lost only two matches last season.
“Ever play a team that seems like the ball never bounces in our favor? That’s Pburg for us,” Coach Gauze said.
“I thought we did well in the first half. We were down 3-1, but two came off corners kicks that just bounced the wrong way, so I was pretty happy at the half. I thought we moved the ball well and our defense was playing hard, too.”
The second half was a different game for the Cards.
“It just seemed that nothing went our way. We missed some shots that I thought we should have made, but that’s how it goes. Prestonsburg is a good team, but it shouldn’t have been 7-1.”
McCoy continued her scoring streak with one goal that was assisted by Hale. She’s scored at least one goal in the last four matches.
Fletcher had 10 saves between the posts and Addison Duncan had one.
The team was scheduled to host their district rival Johnson Central Tuesday. Lawrence County will take on the Cards Thursday at The Rock. Martin County will play at Huntington High School on Saturday.
