INEZ — The Martin County Board of Education honored the school district’s top five Spelling Bee students and a Martin County High School senior bound for Yale University ahead of its regular meeting Monday.
“It’s always one of our favorites to recognize students who have achieved in some particular form or fashion,” Board Chairman Mickey McCoy said.
Superintendent Larry James recognized the top five finishers in the district spelling bee: Emma Nichols, a fifth grader at Warfield Elementary, who placed fifth; Kennedy Mills, an eighth grader at Martin County Middle School, who placed fourth; Remy Williams, a fourth grader at Eden Elementary, who placed third; Kinlee Fletcher, a fifth grader at Eden Elementary, who placed second; and Paige Stafford, a sixthgrader at Eden Elementary, who won first place for the second year in a row.

James also recognized senior Collin Mills for being accepted to Yale University.
When James asked how he earned admission, Mills chuckled and replied, “I honestly don’t know.”
However, Mills also admitted he was accepted to Columbia University.
He plans to major in economics and political science.
“That just goes to show you that you can go anywhere from little old Martin County,” James said.
