James Harrison ‘Bear’ Muncy
1934—2026

James Harrison “Bear” Muncy, 91 of Grey Eagle, West Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on March 31, 2026. Bear passed away at Highlands ARH, Prestonsburg, Kentucky, at 12:18 a.m. due to a sudden illness.

Born April 7, 1934, Bear was the oldest son of Columbus Muncy and Laudie Steele (Moore).

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Barbara Ann Muncy; brothers Grover, Eugene, Tootsie, Blondie and Junior Muncy; and his only sister Nellie Muncy.

Although Bear had no children, he had a passionate love for all animals and adopted and cared for many.

He was a proud Army veteran who loved his country.

Bear will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews, sister-in-law Betty Preece, sister-in-law caregiver Mabel Muncy and special friends Rhonda and Gabe Muncy and Cathy Clay.

Per his request there will be no funeral services. His remains will be laid to rest at the Kentucky State Cemetery in Greenup, Kentucky. Arrangements are under the direction of the Mullins Funeral Home of Warfield, Kentucky.
