Martin County Middle School Lady Cards soccer picked up a road win over Adams before falling in a close match at Johnson Central last week.
The Lady Cards defeated Adams 2-1 on March 24 behind a two-goal effort from Aubree Muncy. Alivia Stacy and Maddie Fletcher each recorded an assist in the win.
Martin County followed with a 2-1 loss at Johnson Central on March 26. Emily Mills accounted for the Lady Cards’ lone goal, scoring on a free kick.
Coach Steven Gauze said his young squad is still developing and learning the game.
“I have a lot of younger players,” Gauze said. “I start four fifth graders and a sixth grader so they are still trying to learn the basics. I do have three returning starters from last year and I think they’re going to step up more.”
Despite the loss to Johnson Central, Gauze said Martin County created opportunities but could not capitalize often enough.
“We had chances in the game but couldn’t finish,” Gauze said. “Missed several good shots straight to the goalkeeper and missed a PK. So we still have a lot of room for improvement.”
