PRESTONSBURG — Martin County Middle School’s girls soccer team opened its season Saturday with a solid showing at the Adams Soccerama. The Lady Cards finished with a win, a tie and a narrow loss in three 30-minute matches.

The Lady Cards tied host Adams 1-1, defeated Powell County 3-1 and fell to Lawrence County 1-0.

Aubree Muncy accounted for all four of Martin County’s goals on the day.

Despite the mixed results, head coach Steven Gauze said he likes the fight he has seen from his young squad.

“I had eight of 11 starters move up to high school this year, so we are a very young, inexperienced team,” Gauze said. “But I wouldn’t look at us as an easy win. What we lack in experience, we make up for in determination. They work hard in practice, have a lot of energy, and are very tough. Excited to see how we play tomorrow.”

Martin County was scheduled to face Adams again Tuesday night. The Lady Cards will travel to Johnson Central on Thursday before spring break.
