INEZ — Martin County’s boys tennis team improved to 5-0 Monday with another victory over Shelby Valley, this time winning the rematch at Bob Amos Park after also defeating the Wildcats at home Friday.
The Cards split their tennis matches against Shelby Valley on Friday, with the Cardinals earning a 4-2 victory while the Lady Cardinals dropped a 4-2 decision.
Singles winners Caden Mann and Darrian Jewell led the Martin County boys. Mann picked up a 6-3 win at No. 2 singles, while Jewell added a 6-2 victory at No. 4. The Cardinals also swept doubles play as Shawn Marcum and Corey Endicott won 6-3 at No. 1 doubles, and Bailey Crum and Braiden Chapman secured a 4-2 win at No. 2 doubles.
Bryson Dials fell 6-1 at No. 1 singles, and Anthony Mann was edged in a tiebreaker at No. 3 singles, losing 7-6 (7-5).
For the Lady Cardinals, Faith Caldwell earned a 6-1 win at No. 2 singles and Hope Caldwell followed with a 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles.
Addison Kerr fell 6-0 at No. 1 singles, while Martin County was unable to pick up a doubles win. Chloe May and Haruka Kaibori lost 6-4 at No. 1 doubles, Raegan Hale and Adalynn Maynard dropped a 6-3 match at No. 2 doubles, and Keyera Maynard and Kenzlee Smith fell 6-0 at No. 3 doubles.

The Cardinals improved to 5-0 on the season behind a strong showing in singles play. Chase Hinkle earned a hard-fought 7-5 win at No. 2 singles. Caden Mann cruised to a 6-0 victory at No. 3. Darrian Jewell added another dominant performance with a 6-0 win at No. 4, and Shawn Marcum and Jerrod Haney teamed up for a 6-0 victory at No. 1 doubles.
Corey Endicott fell 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Cole Damron and Bailey Crum dropped a 6-0 match at No. 2 doubles, while Braiden Chapman and Bentley Bowman were edged 7-6 (7-5) at No. 3 doubles.
For the Lady Cardinals, Haruka Kaibori picked up Martin County’s lone singles win with a 6-4 decision at No. 2. Bella Marcum and Kadence Blackburn added a 6-1 win in doubles, and Bella Marcum and Addison Kerr won 6-2.
Chloe May retired with an injury while trailing 5-3 at No. 1 singles, and Addison Kerr fell 6-2 at No. 3 singles. In doubles play, May and Kaibori pushed Shelby Valley’s top team and the region’s No. 1 team before falling 9-7. Adalynn Maynard and Raegan Hale lost 7-5.
The loss dropped the Lady Cardinals to 1-4 on the season.
Martin County was scheduled to host Pikeville on March 24, welcome Hazard on March 27 and travel to Raceland on March 28.
