Lady Cards softball opens season 1-2

INEZ — Martin County Lady Cards softball opened the 2026 softball season with a 1-2 record and earned a 13-11 win over Elliott County on March 21.

The Lady Cards dropped their season opener 10-0 at Breathitt County on March 19, then fell 3-0 to Mingo Central on Saturday.

The Lady Cards found their offense against Elliot County. Martin County collected 12 hits in the win.

Haley Robinson led Martin County 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored, two RBIs, two doubles and four stolen bases.

Bella Muncy went 2-for-5 with three runs scored, one RBI, a double, a home run and three stolen bases.

Hallee Preece finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a triple. Makenna Marcum was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and three stolen bases.

Mia Fields and Alyssa Mullins added one hit apiece, with Fields driving in a run and Mullins hitting a double. Brianna Muncy also had a hit. Sophie Harless scored twice and drew two walks. Tessa Gantt and KarLee Gillman each scored a run.

Martin County stole 14 bases in the win. Robinson had four steals, Bella Muncy and Marcum added three each.

Mullins earned the win in the circle, pitching all seven innings. She allowed 13 hits, 11 runs (eight earned), struck out five and walked five on 80 pitches.

Martin County managed three hits in the loss to Mingo Central. Fields, Bri Muncy and Bella Muncy each had one hit, with Bri Muncy doubling.

Mullins pitched a complete game, allowing seven hits, three runs (two earned) while striking out seven and walking one over five innings.

The Lady Cards were scheduled with Paintsville for a 57th District matchup March 24. They host Tolsia at 5:30 p.m. March 25. On March 26, they host Fairview and on March 27, Fleming County comes to town.
