Sheriff recovers stolen backhoe, truck and trailer in Beauty

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office recovered this stolen Kubota backhoe Tuesday morning in the Beauty area. The investigation also led to the recovery of a stolen Ford truck and a stolen dump trailer.

BEAUTY — The Martin County Sheriff’s Office recovered a stolen backhoe, pickup truck and dump trailer Tuesday morning in Beauty.

Sheriff John Kirk arrested David Joshua Brown, 40, of Lovely, on Big Elk Road on a charge of receiving stolen property valued at more than $10,000.

Kirk said Brown was in possession of a stolen Kubota backhoe, a stolen Ford pickup and a stolen dump trailer.

According to the criminal citation, witnesses reported seeing Brown with tools and batteries that investigators are attempting to locate and recover.

“[Brown] told me he had bought the backhoe from Brandon Sluss, which Sluss denies,” Kirk said. “The truck and backhoe belong to Sonja Andrews and the trailer and tools belong to William Preece.”

Brown is lodged at the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center.
