
Students from Martin County Middle School’s Junior Beta Club recently traveled to Lexington to compete in the Junior National Beta State Convention, held March 1–3. The annual convention brought together Beta members from across the state to compete in academic, performing arts and visual arts competitions while celebrating the organization’s pillars of achievement, leadership, character and service.
This year, more than 25 Martin County Middle School students competed in a variety of events, proudly representing their school and community. Several students earned top placements and recognition for their hard work and talents.
Kennedy Mills earned first place in the Eighth Grade ELA Academic Test, an outstanding achievement that highlights academic excellence.

Hunter Phelps earned second place in Digitally Enhanced Photography, showcasing creativity and technical skill in digital design.

Olivia Maynard placed fifth in the Seventh Grade ELA Academic Test, demonstrating strong academic knowledge.

The Living Literature team, consisting of Layla Howell, KK Fluty, Kenadi Todd, Emily Mooney, Davis Wilson, Hunter Phelps, Keagan Rice and Gunner Broaddus, delivered an impressive performance and earned fourth place in the competitive event.

In addition, Erica Whitt received a Golden Ticket – Premier Dancer Award, recognizing her exceptional performance and talent in the performing arts.

Due to their strong performances at the state convention, Martin County Middle School Beta members will advance to the National Beta Convention, which will be held June 23–26 in Nashville.
