INEZ — Martin County sophomore guard Brayden Marcum added his name to the Kentucky high school record book Thursday night, tying the KHSAA single-season steals record during the Cardinals’ 15th Region tournament game against Belfry.
Marcum finished the season with 173 steals, matching the state’s single-season mark while establishing himself as one of the most disruptive defenders in Kentucky high school basketball.
A relentless on-ball defender, Marcum averaged 5.6 steals per game over 31 contests this season and played a major role in Martin County’s success with his constant pressure.
While his defense drew the most attention, Marcum also provided solid production on the offensive end. He averaged 6.7 points per game, knocked down 41 3-pointers and shot 47 percent from the floor this season.
