WARFIELD — Warfield Elementary School was placed on a soft lockdown Monday due to what school officials described as a neighboring situation.

In a message to parents and guardians, school officials said the precaution was taken to ensure student safety and emphasized that the school itself was not under threat.

“This has nothing to do with our school and there is no threat to our school or students,” the notice stated.

Law enforcement officers were already on the scene addressing the nearby situation, according to the school.

A soft lockdown typically means that classes continue as normal inside the building, but exterior doors are secured and movement may be limited as a precaution.
