INEZ — First-year head coach Boo Newsome and her Martin County Middle girls basketball team hosted the Rumble in the Mountains event at Martin County High School all day Saturday. The A team went 2-1 and the B team 1-1.
The first game for the Lady Cards was a nail-biter with a 35-34 win over the Mullins A team.
The A squad also defeated Lenore 32-15, with the B team getting the W with a score of 32-7.
Both losses on the day came at the hands of a tough Betsy Layne team.
Coach Newsome was glad to see her team against some competition.
“We came out energetic and ready to play,” Newsome said. “They are learning to play with each other and we’re growing in our team chemistry. The girls played their guts out and never stopped hustling.”
The team was scheduled to play at Dorton Monday and host Magoffin Tuesday. They will be playing Louisa on their home court Thursday at 6 p.m.
The coaches would like to thank the sponsors of the Rumble in the Mountains: Appalachian Wireless, Mullins Family Funeral Home, Tim Short Auto Group, Adkins Fastop, The Loaded Goat, Blooms on Main, Kentucky Farm Bureau, and OVP Health.
