INEZ — Devan Maynard and Chloe May are the First State Bank Players of the Week.

Maynard of the Martin County Cardinals basketball team turned in a dominant performance in the Cardinals’ 82-72 road win at Shelby Valley.

The senior posted a monster double-double with 17 points and 21 rebounds, controlling the paint on both ends of the floor. He added five assists, two steals and three blocks, accounting for the bulk of Martin County’s 32 team rebounds.

Maynard shot 8-of-12 from the field and set the tone physically as the Cardinals wrapped up the regular season 19-8.

May of the Martin County Lady Cardinals basketball team powered her team to a 59-43 win over Magoffin County to lock up the No. 3 seed in the 57th District Tournament.

The senior scored 21 points, knocking down 6 of 8 from 3-point range, while adding eight rebounds, five assists and three steals in an all-around effort.

May’s perimeter shooting and leadership helped the Lady Cards secure their fourth straight win heading into postseason play.
