INEZ — February is Family Resource and Youth Services Centers (FRYSC) Appreciation Month, honoring the work of coordinators who help remove non-academic barriers to student success.
FRYSC programs support students and families through services such as basic needs assistance, community referrals, family engagement programs and resources that help children stay healthy, supported and ready to learn.
In observance of the month, the Martin County Board of Education and Superintendent Larry James recognized FRYSC staff across the district during Monday’s meeting.
James presented certificates to Kara Beth Marcum, Martin County High School; Andrea Muncy, Inez Elementary; Marlena Slone, Eden Elementary; Amanda Stepp, Warfield Elementary; Jennifer Alley, Martin County Middle School; Melissa McCoy, assistant at Martin County High School; and Cassarina Maynard, assistant at Eden Elementary.
“These ladies do an awesome job,” James said. “They’re a great team, and they do a great job for our kids and families.”
District 1 BOE member Mickey McCoy commented on the importance of the coordinator’s work.
“Your job is so very important,” McCoy said. “It’s going to be doubly important as we live through a time when some of the safety net programs are not being funded. There will be more kids suffering and looking for your help, and I pray for every one of you … It’s not going to get any easier on you, but thank God we’ve got you. Thank you very much.”
