Preece leads JV Cardinals past Hornets

SALYERSVILLE — Martin County’s junior varsity built its lead quarter by quarter and pulled away down the stretch to defeat Magoffin County 57-46 on the road Feb. 5.

The Cardinals set the tone early, taking a 9-4 advantage after the first quarter and carrying a 27-21 lead into halftime.

Martin County continued to separate in the third, stretching the margin to 42-33 heading into the fourth before closing it out for the 11-point win.

Luke Preece poured in a game-high 21 points to pace the Cardinals. Jayden Yates followed with 12 and Chase Hinkle added 11 to give Martin County three scorers in double figures.

Bentlee Bowman chipped in five points for Martin County, Rex Ward finished with four, and Braxton Maynard and Bradley Hatfield added two apiece.
