WILLIAMSON, W.Va. — Anglers from across the Tug Fork valley can gear up, learn and connect. The 6th Annual Southern West Virginia Fishing Expo comes to the historic Williamson Fieldhouse on Saturday, Feb. 21.

Hosted by the Friends of Tug Fork River and Williamson Parks & Recreation, the expo will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This year’s lineup will feature up to 100 vendor tables and displays offering deals on the latest fishing gear.

Educational programming will take place throughout the day with hands-on classes and demonstrations designed for anglers of all ages.

Morning sessions will start at 10 a.m. They include aquatic insect demonstrations, fly rod and ties, fly tying and benthics, and “Leave No Trace” principles.

Afternoon sessions will start at 1 p.m. Those include “How’s My Waterway,” fishing in wooded areas, community engagement and pollinator habitats.

Additional attractions include all-day door prizes, children’s programs and consultations with a lawyer on leasing and permitting private lands.

A West Virginia Division of Natural Resources master naturalist will also be on hand to share expertise.

“I look forward to seeing all of our old friends and new friends again this year,” said Pete Runyon of Friends of the Tug Fork River.

Food will be available on-site, including a catfish fry and concessions.

Admission is $5, with children 12 and under entering free.

Doors open at 9 a.m., and the event runs until 3 p.m. at 1703 W. Third Avenue in Williamson.
