MARTIN COUNTY — From the Fiscal Court to government boards and authorities, several public entities serve Martin County and are registered with the Kentucky Department for Local Government. Two additional entities serve the cities of Inez and Warfield.

Together, these bodies form the framework of local government that oversees essential services, programs, policies and spending. As state law requires, each must hold regularly scheduled meetings, publish that schedule annually in the newspaper and account to the people.

While most of these entities have not published their schedule, the Mountain Citizen, as a service to its readers, is publishing the list below to help residents know when and where to attend local government meetings.

Appalachian Industrial Authority — every three months at noon on the fourth Wednesday, 9409 Highway 805, Jenkins.

Big Sandy Area Development District — last Thursday of every month at 12:30 p.m., 110 Resource Court, Prestonsburg. However, the next meeting is Feb. 24 at 12:30 p.m., making it a special meeting.

Big Sandy Regional Jail Authority — fourth Thursday of the month at 6 p.m. at 904 3rd Street, Paintsville.

Inez City Commission — second Thursday of the month at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 380 E Main Street, Inez.

Martin County Board of Education — second Monday of the month at 5 p.m. at the central office, 7900 KY-645, Inez.

Martin County Economic Development Authority — second Wednesday of the month at 5:30 p.m. at the Martin County Government Center, 42 E Main Street, Second Floor, Inez.

Martin County Extension Board — second Tuesday of the month at 4 p.m. at the extension office, 9 Holy Street, Inez.

Martin County Fiscal Court — third Thursday of the month at 5 p.m. at the Martin County Government Center, 42 E Main Street, Second Floor, Inez.

Martin County Health Department — quarterly in March, June, September and December on the third Tuesday at 5:30 at the health department, 136 Rockcastle Road, Inez.

Martin County Housing Authority — second Wednesday of the month at 3:30 p.m. at Riverside Apartments, 55 Riverside Apartments Drive, Warfield.

Martin County Library Taxing District — fourth Monday each month at 5 p.m. at the Collier Center, 387 E Main Street, Inez; quarterly at Rufus Reed in Lovely.

Martin County Sanitation District Board — fourth Tuesday of each month, immediately following the water board meeting, at 6 p.m. at the Martin County Government Center, 42 E Main Street, Second Floor, Inez.

Martin County Soil & Water Conservation District — second Thursday of the month at 10 a.m. at 387 Main Street, Suite 308, Inez.

Martin County Solid Waste Board — first Wednesday of the month at 5 p.m. at the Martin County Government Center, 42 E Main Street, Second Floor, Inez.

Martin County Tourism & Recreation Commission — third Monday of the month at 5:30 p.m. at the Martin County Government Center, 42 E Main Street, Second Floor, Inez.

Martin County Water District Board — fourth Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Martin County Government Center, 42 E Main Street, Second Floor, Inez.

Warfield City Commission — last Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 211 Hode Road, Warfield.
