WARFIELD — A Kenton County man was arrested Tuesday morning at a Warfield apartment complex on charges of assault and strangulation, Kentucky State Police said.

Troopers from Post 9 in Pikeville took Elijah Bailey, 21, of Covington, into custody about 7:55 a.m. at Riverside Apartments. He was charged with fourth-degree assault (domestic violence) involving a minor injury and second-degree strangulation (domestic violence-related).

Police said they were dispatched to the complex at 6 a.m. in response to a report of an assault.

Law enforcement found the alleged victim at her grandmother’s apartment.

According to the arrest report, the woman told officers that she and Bailey, her boyfriend, had been drinking at her apartment when an argument escalated into a physical confrontation. She said Bailey choked her and struck her in the mouth.

The trooper reported that the woman had visible injuries to her mouth but declined medical treatment. She told officers she left the apartment and went to her grandmother’s residence, where a 911 call was placed.

The woman also told police that her vehicle remained at her apartment and that Bailey might still be there. Officers located him at the residence a short time later.

Bailey told police he had been intoxicated and had struck the woman but said she also hit him, according to the report. The trooper noted that Bailey did not appear to have any injuries.
