Keathley erupts for 41 as Cardinals top Magoffin

INEZ — Martin County (11-5) put another loud stamp on 57th District play Friday night. The Cards rode a monster scoring outburst from Braxton Keathley to a 75-51 win over Magoffin County (2-15) in Inez.

Keathley poured in 41 points on 17-of-25 shooting, bullying his way to the rim for 15 made 2-pointers and adding a pair of 3s. He completed a double-double with 12 rebounds, chipped in three steals and a block, and went 5 of 6 at the foul line as the Cardinals pulled away in the fourth quarter.

Devan Maynard gave Martin County a steady second punch with a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds on 7-of-9 shooting from inside the arc. Maynard stuffed the stat sheet with four blocks, five assists and three steals.

Bryson Dials finished with 12 points and grabbed three rebounds along with two assists and two steals. Brayden Marcum added three points and was active defensively with six steals to go with four assists and a block.

Senior Eli Mills scored four points and added one rebound and one assist.

Alan Moore contributed four rebounds, an assist and a block. Chase Hinkle pulled down two boards in the Cardinal win.

In the junior varsity game, Martin County earned a 49-36 win behind Luke Preece, who caught fire for a game-high 19 points. Jayden Yates added 13 points and Chase Hinkle scored 10. Braxton Maynard finished with five points and Bentley Bowman chipped in two as the Cardinals JV pulled away down the stretch.

Martin County will play Breathitt County (11-7) in the Kentucky All “A” Classic at 1 p.m. Jan. 22 at the Owensboro Sportscenter.
