James Paul Meade
1965—2026

James Paul Meade, 69, of Stepptown, West Virginia, passed away Jan. 12, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his family.

Born Oct. 22, 1956, in West Virginia, he was the son of the late James Paul and Dixie Caudill Meade.

James was a husband, father, grandfather and coal miner.

James is survived by his wife, Denise Sturgell Meade of Stepptown, son, Jason (Julie) Sturgell of Louisa, Kentucky, daughter, Kayla (Jacob) Hunter of Huntington, grandson, Blake Sturgell of Ft. Gay and granddaughter, Sara Sturgell of Louisa, Kentucky.

James also leaves behind his sisters, Barbara (Jimmy) Dials of Kermit, Debroah (Charles) Copeland and Pamela (Darrell) Bowen, both of Lovely, Kentucky, Patricia Moore of Inez, Kentucky, and Teresa (Peter) Simunac of Kamploops, British Columbia, as well as a host of nieces and nephews and a special group of fishing and hunting buddies.

A memorial service will be announced and conducted at a later date.
