Work to begin Monday on Big Lick Road repairs

JOB — Work will begin Monday on Big Lick Road to repair a section that partially collapsed last winter.

Officials said in a press release Tuesday that the job should take about two weeks to complete. Drivers can expect delays of up to 20 minutes.

Motorists traveling Big Lick Road during this time should expect delays of up to 20 minutes, officials noted. They encourage drivers to plan ahead and to exercise caution while traveling through the construction area.

The project follows a mid-February 2025 collapse of the one-lane road that left only a narrow strip of pavement along a steep embankment.

According to the press release, the county secured Federal Emergency Management Agency funding for the repairs.

Martin County Judge/Executive Lon Lafferty acknowledged that construction will temporarily disrupt travel but said the repairs are necessary to improve safety for the community.

“The Martin County Fiscal Court appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation as this important infrastructure project moves forward,” officials noted.
