INEZ — Laken Williams landed two collegiate offers in two days last week. West Virginia Tech and Shawnee State contacted the Martin County point guard and extended offers for her to play basketball at their respective schools.
Williams will enter her junior year for the Martin County Cardinals this season. She averaged 13.2 ppg and 17.5 ppg the last two years and was named to the 15th All-Region Team in 2022.
Williams is a facilitator and a scorer. She’s a levelheaded point guard that shot 37.7 percent from the field.
Martin County Coach Robin Newsome has promising words regarding Williams.
“She is only a junior and has two years left, so the sky is the limit,” Newsome said. “She works very hard.”
Newsome tries to get her players a lot of exposure.
“I send out info on all our kids all the time, and we go to a lot of college campuses during the summer, and they get exposed,” she said. “I invite college coaches here to work our team out during the summer, and we travel to college campuses to work with their teams. West Virginia Tech was one of the colleges that came here and did a workout with my team. She plays AAU ball, which gives college coaches the chance to watch players in action.”
