Cardinals bounce back with win over Harlan

Keathley, Marcum, Dials record double-doubles

INEZ — Braxton Keathley continued his strong start to the season with a pair of double-doubles as Martin County split a pair of games last week. The Cards fell 79-75 to Huntington Prep (WV) on Dec. 10 before rebounding with a 92-72 win over Harlan on Saturday.

Martin County vs Huntington Prep – Keathley fired in 31 points, collected 14 rebounds for a double-double to go with five assists on 52.2% shooting from the field.

Eli Mills and Brayden Marcum scored 13 points each. Mills knocked down three 3-pointers and shot a blistering 71.4% from the floor. He recorded a board, an assist and a steal.

Marcum stuffed the stat sheet with five steals, three assists and three rebounds.

Alan Moore did a little bit of everything for the home team. He scored eight points and pulled down five boards off the glass to go with an assist and a steal.

Devan Maynard ripped down 12 boards alongside four points, three assists and three steals.

Bryson Dials scored six points, dished out five assists, nabbed four steals and rebounded three.

Martin County shot 49.2% from the field (31-of-63). The Cards hit 7-of-23 from 3-point range (30.4%) and went 6-of-8 at the free-throw line.

Martin County vs Harlan – Coach Jason “JJ” James lit a fire under the squad and the red and white bounced back three days later by lighting it up from the perimeter in a 92-72 victory over Harlan.

Three Cardinals posted a double-double in the win – Dials, Marcum and Keathley.

Martin County shot 56.5% from the floor (35-of-62) and drilled 13 of 27 from 3-point range (48.1%). The Cardinals also won the rebounding battle with 48 boards and hit 9 of 11 free throws.

Keathley led the way with 33 points on 13-of-19 shooting, adding 12 rebounds and going 5-of-6 from the line.

Mills lit up the nets with 17 points, hitting five 3-pointers (5-of-10). He pulled down six boards.

Marcum recorded his first double-double of the season after dropping 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting with three 3s (3-of-5). He wrangled down 10 rebounds.

Dials finished with 13 points, three 3-pointers and 10 rebounds.

Chase Hinkle had himself a night and chipped in eight points to go with four rebounds.

Moore added six points to the board for the home squad and pulled down six off the glass.

Martin County will take on Logan (WV) in the Chapmanville Regional this Friday at 6:30 p.m. The Cards will take on Kentucky Country Day in the Sayre School Lankster Classic the following day at 6:45 p.m.
