TOMAHAWK — Bluegrass and Old Time pickers will be jamming Saturday, Dec. 20 at the popular James E. Webb Musical Repair and Sales in Tomahawk.
Owner and operator James L. Webb is known throughout the state and region not only as a talented musician and teacher, but also as a civic- and community-minded individual who has a love for area youth. He strives to keep the tradition of bluegrass music alive and well in Eastern Kentucky.
Webb said he will soon make an exciting formal announcement about lessons for Martin County school-age children who wish to learn the traditional music older than the mountains we call home.
In an effort to generate interest for a grant funded program generously sponsored by South Arts and Hope in the Hills, Webb, his son James Ray, and the board members of the Stidham Old Time Music Association, welcome everyone to join them this Saturday evening from 5-9 p.m. at their Tomahawk location for a night of great music, fellowship, conversation and delicious food.
“Saturday evening will be one of our traditional jam sessions that we are hoping will feature a good variety of local talent, with something sure to please the young and old alike,” stated Webb. “We’re going to be joined by Jessie Wells from the Morehead School of Traditional Music, which is an honor for us.”
Webb said to celebrate the upcoming Christmas holiday, food and drinks will be available for all who attend.
“If you’re the parent or grandparent of a student attending school here in the county who has shown an interest in taking lessons to learn to play the guitar, banjo, fiddle, bass, mandolin, dulcimer or sing, please bring them to our event on the 20th,” he said. “We’ll be more than happy to sit down with you and explain about the ‘Pick and Bow’ program that will begin after the first of the year.”
