CITIZEN STAFF REPORT
Nighttime sweeping will begin this week on major four-lane highways across Eastern Kentucky and continue for the next two months, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s District 12 office announced.
Crews will work from roughly 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night, creating moving lane closures and intermittent delays for motorists.
The operation will start in Lawrence County and move south through Johnson, Martin, Floyd, Pike, Knott and Letcher counties. Workers will clean travel lanes, medians and barrier walls along the district’s primary multi-lane corridors.
Transportation officials said the work will be a mobile operation. Drivers should expect moving lane closures and periodic slowdowns.
Officials urge motorists to slow down, use caution and watch for crews and equipment, particularly during overnight hours.
Routine sweeping, the agency noted, improves safety by removing debris, enhancing visibility and maintaining proper drainage.
