BEAVER — Kentucky State Police have opened a death investigation after troopers found a woman fatally shot Friday in the Beaver community of Floyd County.

KSP said it was called by Prestonsburg 911 regarding an unresponsive female.

Troopers and investigators arrived at the 14000 block of Kentucky Route 979, where they located the victim deceased.

According to KSP, the initial investigation indicates Sarah Slone, 35, of Beaver, suffered a fatal gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Floyd County Coroner’s Office.

Slone’s body was transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.

Detective Dylan Mullins is leading the investigation with assistance from other KSP personnel. The case remains open.
