INEZ — Martin County High School senior Spencer Jude has joined the Mountain Citizen staff as an intern, bringing his passion for videography and photography to the newsroom.
The 18-year-old is completing his internship through Prosper Appalachia. This program provides students with hands-on work experience in their communities.
Jude will work with the Citizen until he graduates this spring.
Raised by his grandmother Joann Bowen, Jude said he was drawn to the Mountain Citizen by its welcoming environment and strong community presence.
“The people and staff here really drew me in,” Jude said. “I’m looking forward to learning as much as I can and getting experience that will help me in the future.”
Jude will primarily cover Martin County sports to capture local athletic events. He is currently exploring college options to further his education and career goals.
In addition to his internship, Jude is in the process of joining the Kentucky Army National Guard where he hopes to continue developing leadership and discipline that will serve him in both journalism and life.
Sports Editor Brittni McCoy said the Mountain Citizen is proud to have Jude join the team.
“Spencer brings creativity, curiosity and a strong work ethic,” McCoy said. “We’re excited to watch him grow as a journalist and a videographer.”
