INEZ — The Martin County High School soccer team is the America’s Quickmart of Blacklog Player of the Week.
The Lady Cards cemented themselves into school history with their first-ever trip to the Final Four of the All “A” Classic State Tournament.
Martin County edged Sayre 4-3 in a thrilling Elite Eight matchup behind Annaleigh Davis’s hat trick, a goal and three assists from Faith Caldwell, and 15 saves by goalkeeper Bri Muncy.
The Lady Cards battled powerhouse Owensboro Catholic to a 1-1 halftime tie in the semifinals before falling 3-1, capping off a historic run.
The Lady Cards’ success has been fueled by their dominance this season. Caldwell leads the state in assists with 30 at 2.7 per game. She is fourth in goals per game at 2.6 and ninth in total goals (29).
Muncy is 10th in Kentucky with seven shutouts.
As a team, they sit at seventh in total scoring with 69 goals at 5.3 per contest. The Cards are also top five statewide in scoring defense and scoring margin having only allowed eight goals this season.
